Red Sea / Bab al-Mandab Export Chokepoint

Tracks whether Bab al-Mandab and Saudi Red Sea loading infrastructure become a chokepoint separate from the Strait of Hormuz.

unratedactiveon the map since August 7, 2026

August 12 update: live shipping risk started migrating off Hormuz. Houthi forces launched a large-scale attack on Yemen's Saudi-backed government, reportedly killing at least 30 government troops and injuring 17 civilians in shelling, in the same week Brent fell 7.98% on Hormuz reopening talk. Saudi Arabia is reported to be preparing an offensive to break the chokehold on its exports, and a Turkey-Saudi-Pakistan defense pact was signed in Mecca. The mechanical reason this matters now is that Saudi Arabia is routing roughly 7 million barrels a day west by pipeline to avoid the Strait, concentrating volume on the same water. Promotion requires a loadings or insurance number, not another attack headline.
