Space Economy

Finding

The weakest assumption is that SpaceX's public valuation is a clean measure of the space economy. It is not: the latest quarter shows a profitable connectivity engine, a loss-making launch segment, and a loss-making AI segment inside one stock.

What changed

The listing makes the company investable, but it also makes the mixture visible. At about $151.21 per share on September 11, 2026, and 13.57 billion shares outstanding, the implied equity value is about $2.05 trillion - roughly 66 times the latest quarter's revenue annualized, not a measured value of current space activity.

Decision

Change the action now, but narrowly: stop using SpaceX's market capitalization as the headline size of the space economy. Keep SpaceX as a high-value public exposure, while measuring the opportunity through segment revenue, operating cash generation, customer demand, launch execution, and capital intensity.

Watch next

The next results should show whether connectivity remains the cash engine, whether AI losses narrow, and whether Space turns launch capability into durable third-party economics.
